What is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu?
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) is a potentially lethal martial art that teaches the intricate art of submission grappling and ground fighting. The various techniques of BJJ focus on taking your opponent to the ground where you can control them with effective weight placement, weight distribution and/or positioning and then start to work on submitting them by way of “tap out”.
BJJ is very effective in real-life scenarios and is also great as a combative sport. The principle of BJJ is that a smaller, weaker person can overcome a much larger opponent or assailant using leverage, grip, grappling knowledge, positional control and tactical skills to secure a range of techniques such as choke holds, sleeper holds, joint locks and cranks.
Sparring - or rolling as it is better known - is incorporated into many of our classes and is a huge part of the learning process. Rolling offers our students the opportunity to put everything they have learned due the technical sessions to the test in a more realistic and live scenario.
BJJ Class Information
We offer beginner, intermediate and advanced levels of coaching and classes. Beginner classes are aimed towards those who are new to BJJ or white/blue belt level practitioners. Students can progress onto our intermediate classes once they have developed a clear understanding of the basic principles taught in the beginners classes. Advanced techniques will be instructed as and when the instructor deems a person ready for them.
If you’d like to train with us but aren’t sure which level you should start at, please just drop us a message and one of our instructors will get back to you as soon as possible to assist you in making that decision.
