Kids Belt Ranking In BJJ

Kids belts in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) are a reward to demonstrate their progress, commitment knowledge and general behavior during their training. The instructor will award 4 stripes on each belt before they progress to the next color belt.

Belt Color Order

Kids belts are ranked in the following order: white, grey/white, grey/black, yellow/white, yellow, yellow/black, orange/white, orange, orange/black, green/white, green, green/black.

Each belt has levels which are indicated with stripes. When your child starts BJJ, they will have a belt with no stripes on. Each belt has a minimum time it should be worn before promotion can take place. As they develop through the training they will earn stripes and will get promoted after receiving all of the stripes on their belt required for progression onto to the next rank.

More Than Just A Color

Every single stripe they receive is a reward for investing time in training, increasing their knowledge, learning new techniques, their behavior during class and their performance at tournaments. Only the instructor can promote their students. Kids belts work different from adlut BJJ belts, there are more and the promotions go faster.
